WHAT IS THE CORE PROJECT?

The Core Project is composed of a group of citizens who live in, work in, or are just plain enthusiastic about Sebastopol. We came together in 2010 as a result of the Sebastopol Economic Summit, sponsored in September 2009 by the City of Sebastopol and the Sebastopol Chamber of Commerce.

We constantly ask ourselves three crucial questions:
1) How do we celebrate all that makes Sebastopol special and tout it to the rest of the world?
2) How can we help to find solutions for some of the problems that face our town?
3) How can we have fun while we’re doing it?

In short, our main goal is to help make Sebastopol a better place to live in, work in, and visit, while not forgetting the qualities that make our town unique and special in the first place.

Our first effort was an international design competition to “re-envision” Sebastopol’s Downtown Core that garnered entries from our own backyard as well as from around the world. Read more about the competition and its results elsewhere on this site.

Read about our most recent effort, our successful application for a 2013 Sustainable Design Assessment Team (SDAT) grant from the American Institute of Architects (AIA) for the City of Sebastopol valued at $250,000 to $300,00 on our News page.
